Set on a private stretch of the white sand strip, Las Ranitas hotel is dedicated to sustainability and all things eco-luxe. From the natural woods, clean white linens and traditional Mayan tile-work in the rooms to entirely seasonal and locally sourced restaurant, this is a great spot to relax with a clean conscience – the perfect finish to a luxury voluntourism adventure.
All power is generated in-house, and all glass, water and organic waste recycled and composted. All cleaning products are biodegradable and all food is sourced from local providers. Additionally, the hotel was constructed to optimize ventilation and airflow and thus reduce the need for air-conditioning. Finally, the hotel is involved with sea turtle and blue crab conservation programs.
Come for the famous walled Mayan city, stay for the laid back beach town with a somewhat bohemian vibe. The white sands here are well worth travelling the extra few hours from Cancun for, and the ruins are on a par with any in the country. In the evenings, listen to the sea sipping tequila from a beachside hammock.
