Situated in the west of the Uyuni salt lake, the unique Stone Hotel is constructed of local stone and volcanic sand. The ceilings are made of traditional straw that is common to the local Andean communities. All of the rooms make use of solar energy to ensure a constant supply of hot water and maintain heat within the building both during the day and night. The rooms are simple and comfortable and the service is good.
Bolivia boasts the largest salt lake in the world – Salar de Uyuni – and you can easily reach it by bus or short flight from La Paz. There are lagoons dotted with pink flamingos, weird rocks and geysers and a choice of touring options – mostly via 4×4 vehicles.
