Trip Summary
This 14 days trip showcases the best of Lybia, starting in Tripoli with its souks and museum, and on to Leptis Magna – the best preserved Roman ruins in the world – and the Roman town Sabratha and ancient Nalut town to see its bizarre buildings. The next stop will be Ghadhames Old Town, where your volunteer work takes place on repairing this UNESCO World Heritage site. Before you begin volunteering, we spend an afternoon and evening in 4WD’s out in the Rumla desert – you can even have a brief ride on a camel.
Your inspiring adventure continues at the magical Ubari Sand Sea with its stunning oases fringed with palm trees. Another highlight is our two day camping trip into the Sahara Desert around the Akakus Mountains, with its other-worldly rock formations and prehistoric cave paintings. We then fly back to Tripoli, have a relaxing day at a beach resort, before a final morning in Tripoli at the National Museum and some last minute shopping back in the souks, before your flight home.
After being met by your Hands Up Holidays representative at Tripoli airport, you will be transferred to your hotel, and before your welcome dinner you should get the chance to have your first exploration of the souks (markets).
In the morning we visit Leptis Magna – the best preserved Roman ruins in the world, and spend time in the afternoon learning about Libyan culture and gaining some insights to Islam.
The following morning we leave early, with Roman town Sabratha our first stop, before heading inland, stopping in ancient Nalut town to see its bizarre buildings, millery and incredible views, before finishing up in Ghadhames.
Ghadhames Old Town is a wonderful maze of alleyways, and it is here that your volunteer work takes place on this UNESCO World Heritage site. You can even focus on the mosque, and deepen your understanding of this frequently misunderstood religion. But before you do your volunteering, we spend an afternoon and evening in 4WD’s out in Rumla desert – you can even have a brief ride on a camel!
After this incredible experience volunteering, you must bid farewell to your new friends as we head further south, and the magical Ubari Sand Sea with its stunning oases fringed with palm trees.
Another highlight is our two day camping trip into the Sahara Desert around the Akakus Mountains, with its other worldly rock formations and prehistoric cave paintings.
We then fly back to Tripoli, have a relaxing day at a beach resort, before a final morning in Tripoli at the National Museum and some last minute shopping back in the souks, before your flight home.
