Your "Taste of Volunteering" Project
The orphanage where you will assist for three days is situated very near the Burmese border and is comprised largely of Burmese refugees, primarily of the Karen and Mon ethnic minority groups. It is an inspiring place, where you can help teach, or work on various building projects, using innovative, ecologically sustainable techniques.
Trip Summary
This trip takes you to gorgeous parts of Thailand, such as the small remote community of Pra Pradaeng. Visit a traditional 'Bang Nam Pung' market. Watch and enjoy the hive of activity as villagers, dressed in their finery, trade and socialise. Buy beautiful hand crafted goods or tasty fresh produce and have fun developing your haggling skills.
Sangkhlaburi, in the far west of Thailand near Burma is the site of a truly rewarding volunteer project. This is a unique opportunity to form friendships with these gracious and warm people, and gain a deeper understanding of the political issues that have driven them from their home. Help provide these children with an environment that is conducive to learning and nurtures their inquisitive nature. Let them touch your life as you help rebuild theirs.
The volunteer project is undoubtedly the highlight of this fabulous trip, but there are many more things to explore. Visit a sunken temple and an elephant camp. Then make yourself at home on a converted rice barge as it snakes its way down the Chao Phraya River. Find yourself slow to the pace of the barge as you drift past beautiful scenery and watch the fascinating interaction of the people that inhabit this artery. Enjoy the freedom to hop off and explore on bicycle, if something of interest catches your eye.
