Your "Taste of Volunteering" Project

IT/Administrative Assistance, Teaching English

Trip Summary

Your adventure begins in Bali’s Sanur Beach, with a trip the following afternoon to Bali’s southernmost tip. Then you visit the artistic mecca of Ubud and  fly to Yogyakarta, in Java, home of the “8th Wonder of the World”: the Buddhist temple of Borobudur.

Your volunteer project with Yakkum begins on the sixth day, where you will have the opportunity to help in the office with administrative and IT work, teach English, or conduct swimming lessons for Yakkum’s physically disabled clients.
The next inspiring stop will be Lombok, where you will experience meaningful interaction with islanders over two days . Then you will have an enriching time in Gili Trawangan island where you can relax, sunbathe, swim, snorkel or explore. Your adventure ends with 3 days in Bali, with a restful morning and a pampering afternoon spa and aromatherapy massage, to rest those muscles and prepare you for your flight home.

This trip has it all, combining cultural interaction on three islands with beaches, shopping, and mountains.

We begin in Bali’s Sanur Beach, and have a trip the following afternoon to Bali’s southernmost tip, with monkeys scampering around the cliff-side overlooking the Indian Ocean, and enjoy superb sunset views.

We then depart for the artistic mecca of Ubud where we visit a painter’s studio, a museum and the local markets; stopping off at a delightful village and ricefields on the way.

The following morning we fly to Yogyakarta, in Java, home of the “8th Wonder of the World”, the Buddhist temple of Borobudur.Yogyakarta is also home to hindu temples, and is known as the “Royal City”, with life revolving around the Sultan’s Palace. We visit these sights, as well as water gardens and the colourful Bird Market. We also visit the famed Batik makers, and Javanese silversmiths. After a rest at the hotel, we go out for dinner and a performance of the elegant Ramayana Ballet in an adjacent open air theatre. We start early the next day, to see the sunrise over Borobudur Temple, as well as drive to Merapi Volcano, before a “becak” (driver powered tricycle) ride to famous Malioboro St, with its stalls and tasty restaurants.

Our volunteering with Yakkum begins the next day, where you will have the opportunity to help in their office with administrative and IT work, teach English, or conduct swimming lessons for Yakkum’s physically disabled clients.

After saying goodbye to our new friends, we fly to the less developed island of Lombok, and transfer to lively Senggigi Beach and our luxury boutique accommodation on the beach for two nights.

We have a full day touring Lombok with visits to villages renowned for their handicraft expertise. Walk through villages, rice fields and plantations to see the local way of life, and observe the differences in life between Bali and Lombok. We drive to a village of traditional Lombok pottery makers, and another village known for its unique style of weavings, and on to the mountain resort of Tetebatu.

The next day we board a simple traditional boat to Gili Trawangan island, and check in for accommodation at another luxury boutique hotel for an afternoon and another full day at leisure for relaxing, sunbathing, swimming, snorkelling, or exploring.

Your adventure ends in Bali, with a restful morning and a pampering afternoon spa and aromatherapy massage, to rest those muscles and prepare you for your flight home.
