Your New York Itinerary:
Upon arrival at JFK/EWR Airport you will go to baggage claim to claim your luggage.
After collecting your luggage you will proceed towards the exit sign. You will be met just outside the customs/security area by your driver whom will be holding a sign bearing your name waiting to assist you with luggage and your journey into the Big Apple.
Upon arrival at the Waldorf Astoria - the original House of Astor with great historical acclaim - you will be met by your tour guide Avi Kalkstein who will greet you warmly and facilitate a smooth check-in process.
Your accommodations are in the Waldorf Towers section and offer an exclusive lounge that is available to you each morning for breakfast and afternoon Tea – it is available to you each day until 4 PM
Avi will give you a brief period to receive your luggage and get comfortable before reconvening for a two hour orientation tour where you will review the week ahead, secure required documents, tickets, metro cards etc.
Avi will explain the New York transit system and how to use your metro card for transportation by bus or subway any time during the week when needed. Driver contact details will be provided at this time as well.
A walk around the neighborhood to get the lay of the land and a visit to the observation deck at Top of the Rock will begin to make you feel at home in the bustling city of New York.
If you are tired and wish to visit the Top of the Rock at another time of your choosing that is fine as well. It is an amazing gift to New York City given by John D Rockefeller with elevators lined with Swarovski crystals and vistas over Manhattan and of the Empire State Building that none can rival!
You will also be given a dinner voucher which can be used for dinner in the famous “Bull and Bear” restaurant in the hotel any evening for a reservation commencing between 5 and 6:30 PM.
The night is young to take full advantage of the city or perhaps you want to settle in early to rest before the full week of adventure ahead. The Waldorf has several restaurants, an amazing spa and also is just a great place for people watching as well in the vast sprawling lobby.
9 AM - After breakfast in the Towers lounge, Avi will meet you outside the 51st Street entrance of the hotel with your driver to whisk you downtown to the heliport. Enroute he will point out many exciting sites to whet your appetite for the week to come. Your sensational breath-taking 15 minute “Big Apple Helicopter Flight” will put you face to face with the Statue of Liberty, see the sparkle of the Chrysler building and the perhaps green, perhaps snowy expanse of Central Park.
Following the exciting ride, your car will take you back uptown to Trump – Wollman rink actually located in Central Park where you can don your ice skates and enjoy the largest outdoor rink in New York City, in the prettiest surroundings,. Hot chocolate and hot dogs are available to warm you up if needed. Dress for this day should be casual comfortable and warm. Bring your hats and gloves! Avi will tend to your needs and enrich your experience with his wealth of information about this great city and your surroundings.
We hope to round off your afternoon with a Backstage tour of Radio City Music Hall with its grand stage and acoustics and even have an opportunity to meet a real Rockette! (pending availability at the time of booking)
3PM - Avi will escort you to the bus stop on 50th Street for a short bus ride back to the hotel to rest and change for dinner. He will also instruct you as to how and where to use your metro card to return to the theatre district area for your photo at 5PM – 46th Street and Broadway near the steps. You will meet Kevin McCormick who will position you just right with the back drop of Times Square for your photo memento that you will be given just before your departure.
5:30 PM – A feast to remember! Come hungry to enjoy the fabulous Italian family style welcome dinner at Carmines of New York City fame that will surely scintillate and satiate ( 200 West 44th Street between Broadway and 8th Avenue). Unlimited beer wine and soda accompany your meal. Relax and enjoy.
7:30 - 8:00 PM – You have in hand your tickets for a Broadway show of your choice which is only a few blocks away so you can relax and be carried away for yet another adventure in a fun packed day! Avi will give you directions earlier in the day so you know in what direction to walk to the theatre. Should you care to go for a night cap at Sardi’s or the like, there are many great places, all within a few blocks. If you wish to take a taxi to return to the hotel there are many and the short ride will not cost more than $8-$10. Sleep well – tomorrow is a big day!
7:00 AM - Your driver will meet you outside the 51st street entrance of the hotel and bring you to your voluntourism project site.
Revitalize a community center in Coney Island that was impacted by Super Storm Sandy. Volunteers will be priming, straight painting and adding murals to the walls of a local Coney Island community center. Themes of the center are to include beaches, pirates, mermaids and amusement parks. Our goal is to help the center become a vibrant space once again for the neighborhood.
Please wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty as the paint will not come out of your clothes. Minimize belongings.
WHAT YOU DO:
- No painting experience is necessary.
- Work Scope: Come prepared to haul, prep, paint or clean – and see real results.
- We supply all tools, gloves, paint and materials you will need.
Food/Drink: Water fountains are onsite, but good idea to bring a bottle of H20. You provide your own lunch.
Bathrooms: The center has a restroom.
Please try to have breakfast in the Towers lounge beforehand. Dress warmly and comfortably in clothing that you do not mind getting dirty and or possibly ruined.
4:00 PM - Your driver will pick you up from the site to return to the hotel
This evening is free to do as you wish. If you did not use your dinner voucher at the Bull and Bear restaurant in the hotel on the first night this would be a good night to use it. Please have your concierge in the hotel make a reservation for you in advance for 6 or 6:30 PM
Your day time schedule is the same as that for Wednesday
8:00 PM (for 8:30 PM reservation) - Your driver will pick you up outside the 51st street entrance to the hotel to take you to celebrate a “Happy Valentine's Day” at the renowned Petrossians originally of Paris fame. At the corner of 142 West 58th Street and 7th Avenue is one of the most special elegant restaurants in New York City. Your special menu for this special occasion will delight. (Please note a separate check for cocktails or wine will be presented) Your driver will return you to the hotel by 11 PM
Your day time schedule remains the same as that for Wednesday
6:45 PM - Use your metro card or take a taxi to 254 West 54th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue) to “54 Below” the new Broadway Cabaret Club just below the infamous old Studio 54.
A special dinner menu has been organized for you to enjoy prior to a special up close and personal performance by the amazing actress/songstress Patti Lupone at 8:30 PM.
Between the excitement of the history in the walls of this venue, the delightful food and the amazing talent this will be another night to remember! ( One glass of wine or champagne included – additional drinks are on a separate check) The balance of the evening is yours to enjoy on your own but you may find yourself somewhat tired and tomorrow New York city awaits!
9:00 AM – Avi will meet you outside the 51st Street entrance of the hotel to take the bus to 12th Avenue and 44th Street to embark on a water taxi which will be a great opportunity to see and learn about the city from the water as you ride down to Battery Park. This is normally the departure point for the boats to tour Liberty and Ellis Island. However, due to damage from Hurricane Sandy the repairs have hindered this touring until at least the beginning of June. You will walk along West Street to visit the 911 Memorial which is an amazing tribute to the men and women who lost their lives on that memorable day. The rebuilding continues.
Avi will impart amazing facts and history to enrich the experience. A light casual lunch will be enjoyed at Essex Café where all of the first responders were fed.
Your car will pick you up from this point to tour more and visit amazing new architectural and culinary additions to our great city – like Chinatown, Eataly – the creation of the Batali / Batianich family empires that is one full block of Italian restaurants, a cooking school, delicacy and wine shops., the Hi- Line, Chelsea Market, and more returning to the hotel by 4 PM.
Take a few hours to rest and refresh for another special evening.
6 PM - Your driver will again meet you at the 51st Street entrance to take you for yet another voyage on the Hudson – this one more elegant on World Yacht, where you will dine on an elegant menu and dance if so moved by the talented DJ, take up close pictures of the Statue of Liberty from the open deck, and see the skyline lit up in all its glory. Boarding is from 6-7 and it sails from 7-10pm. Your driver will return you to the Waldorf at the end.
This is your day of rest and leisure.
12:00 Noon - You are booked for brunch at Brasserie 8 ½ - of Sex and the City fame (9 West 57th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues). As you may want to shop before and or after your transportation to and from is on your own. Enjoy the wonderful elegant tempting buffet! Your beverage check is on your own other than coffee or tea and juice but you may want to try one of the famous Cosmo’s the fabulous four indulged upon!
The balance of the day is on your own to enjoy and explore this great city!
Enjoy your final breakfast at the hotel.
Checkout time is at Noon
Your car will be arranged to take you to the airport 4 hours prior to flight time with a few mementos to remind you of the amazing experiences of the week before
