For the most part, India is at its best from November to March, as this is the coolest time, and the driest (of course, if you are focusing on the Himalaya or Ladakh area, the timing is reversed). The monsoon generally hits north and central India from May to September, continuing into October in the south. If you like the heat, May to September can be a great time to visit Rajasthan as this is largely dry.
