New Zealand is in the Southern Hemisphere; therefore, all seasons are the opposite of those in North America and Europe.

There really isn’t a bad time to travel to New Zealand, but in terms of warmest weather, Novemeber to March is best. Keep in mind, though, that most New Zealanders take their main annual vacation between mid-December and mid-January, which puts pressure on accommodations in beach destinations in the North Island, National Parks such as Abel Tasman, and Queenstown and Wanaka in the South Island.

And because New Zealand’s best accommodation is in small luxury lodges, capacity is limited pretty much everywhere, so it pays to reserve well in advance.

And of course if you want to ski, come in July, August or September. The best skiing is in Queenstown and Wanaka.
