Eco-Luxury hotels and lodges are properties that minimize any environmental impact whilst retaining your creature comforts.

Examples of what makes a luxury hotel or lodge “eco-luxury” are:

• They are designed with sustainability at the forefront
• They are constructed using recycled, locally sourced materials and blended into the setting with no damage to flora and fauna
• They generate their own electricity (such as solar or wind)
• They use LED lighting
• They recycle and sustainably use waste materials, such as used cooking oil to power vehicles, or heat from ovens used to heat rooms

We scour the globe identifying accommodation partners who share our vision for sustainable luxury travel; whilst eco-luxury accommodation options are not available everywhere, we are thrilled that the numbers are increasing, and these will be the first hotels that we recommend for you to rest your head. 

In our opinion, Costa Rica leads the world in its commitment to eco-luxury, with a large number of sublime properties, including Kasiiya, El Silencio, Lapa Rios, and Pacuare Lodge.

Thailand also has some excellent eco-luxe resorts, with our favorites being Soneva Kiri, Six Senses, Aleenta Phuket, and Zeavola.

Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Australia, USA, New Zealand, Fiji, Cambodia, Vietnam,  India, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Peru, Guatemala and Belize all have significant – and growing – numbers of sustainable luxury options.
