Chongwe River House
Chongwe Safaris is one of the oldest and most established companies in the Lower Zambezi. On offer are Classic Tents, the Albida or Cassia Suites, Tsika Island , Kasaka River Lodge, or the exclusive and private Chongwe River House.
Chongwe River House sits on the banks of the Chongwe River, which borders Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park. his is an area rich in game with large herds of elephants and all the predators.
The design of the house is unusual. The entire house has been built around a frame of wild wood, with walls following the contours of the branches. Colored pebbles from the river decorate the ceilings.
There are four bedrooms in total, each with an incredible bathroom. Water pours through the stone ceiling in the upstairs showers, while the downstairs showers are waterfalls. The taps are made of wood and bone while the basins have been beautifully carved from wood and marble.
The house has spectacular views of the dramatic mountainous escarpment beyond the river. Many animals can be seen from the deck, including elephants crossing the river, and species such as kudu and Impala coming down to the river to drink.
Not only is there a house manager, private chef and guide at your disposal, but the house comes complete with a private vehicle, boat, canoes and an armed scout for game-viewing. Activities are tailored to suit you and can include fishing for tiger sharks, and bird watching around neighboring islands by boat.
Chongwe River House is a superb place and ideal for groups of up to 8.
This National Park is generally considered to be the least developed and most remote, a chance to really experience nature in its rawest form. The Zambezi River flows through it, providing water to huge groups of wildlife, including vast herds of elephant. The park also has good numbers of lions and leopard.
