In the foothills of the Grootberg massif, set amidst magnificent scenery and the ancient Etendeka lava flows of northern Damaraland, the ten new en-suite tents have recently been refitted with luxury mattresses and 100% cotton linen. Though rustic, creature comforts are retained, while items such as the traditional, open-air bucket shower still hark back to the romance of a bygone era.
Freshly prepared meals are enjoyed under the stars.
In the words of your hosts, “the feel at Etendeka is rustic; we wanted to bring back that rugged element of the traditional tented camp that most have unfortunately lost.”
Solar power is extensively used throughout the camp. Etendeka is one of only two establishments that have been awarded the highest rank in the Namibian Eco-awards.
This region is a vast prehistoric grassland, almost the epitome of rugged beauty and definitely remaining an untamed environment. It is home to Namibia’s highest mountain – the Brandberg – as well as the amazing Petrified Forest, which has incredible examples of fossilized trees.
