Set on 61,000 acres of private ranch and wilderness conservancy, Loisaba Lodge sits on the edge of Laikipia in northern Kenya.
Through Loisaba roam various game – elephant, lion and leopard, alongside the rare northern species that thrive here – gerenuk, grevy’s zebra and reticulated giraffe. More unusual species can also be found at Loisaba including striped hyena and wild dog. It’s a setting little changed since the Great Rift Valley split Africa in two creating the escarpment on which the lodge lies on.
Luxurious yet in harmony with its surroundings, full of adventure yet an oasis of calm. Loisaba is a tranquil and life-enhancing haven for wildlife and visitors alike. Loisaba is immense: bigger in size than ten of the world’s fully-fledged nations! You could take months exploring this land and never encounter the same view twice.
Daily scheduled flights are available from Nairobi Wilson airport to Loisaba airstrip, followed by a ten minute road transfer to the lodge.
Built entirely of local materials, Loisaba Lodge offers stunning, unimpeded views sweeping down the valley to Mount Kenya in the distance. The seven en-suite rooms all have a private deck built into the escarpment; all the furniture at the lodge is handmade. The lodge has a swimming pool and tennis court.
The Star Beds
Created to generate employment and income for local communities and located some distance from the main lodge, each set of Star Beds has raised, wooden platforms with a thatched roof covering half of the platform and the rest open to the breathtaking night sky. “Mukokoteni” beds with mosquito nets can either be wheeled out for a night under the stars or left under cover. All platforms are en-suite. Both Koija & Kiboko starbeds are manned by a team of Laikipiak Maasai from the nearby community who are only too pleased to share their stories, songs and dances around the camp fire after dinner.
Ideal for families or groups of friends, Loisaba Cottage is completely self-contained with its own staff and swimming pool. There are four bedrooms – three are en suite and one has a luxurious bathroom a short distance away. The main cottage has a sitting room with fireplace, dining area, mezzanine room (ideal for kids) and main bedroom which is open at the front to take in the sweeping views. There are two other rooms in the gardens – spacious enough to accommodate extra beds for young children.
The self-contained house offers complete privacy for a small family or couple and is built on the edge of the escarpment offering breath-taking views. The House has its own staff and a cliff top infinity pool. There are two vast en-suite bedrooms with fireplaces as well as a cosy sitting room with a huge fireplace, dining area and mezzanine bar/library area.
Loisaba is made for adventure. You have complete freedom to choose how you spend your time so the only barrier is your own imagination. Trek through the bush with camels, mountain bike down the escarpment, raft, horseback-ride, track lions and wild dogs collared for research purposes, enjoy a hike to the waterhole or further afield, or take a day or night drive to seek out Loisaba’s vast wealth of wildlife. Weather permitting, it may also be possible to enjoy a beautiful bush breakfast by the river or dinner under the stars next to a magical waterfall.
Loisaba Conservancy is outstandingly beautiful, its abundant wildlife is truly wild and its accommodation is comfortable beyond measure. Whether sleeping under the undisturbed African night sky on their groundbreaking unique Star Beds, rafting down the majestic Ewaso Ngiro and Ng’are Narok Rivers, or watching Africa’s best wildlife stroll past on a game drive, a visit to Loisaba will revive your mind, rejuvenate your body and revitalise your soul.
