The natural wonder of Tortuguero is the backdrop for this peaceful, romantic retreat. It’s hard to leave any of the 12 tranquil rooms, but outside, some of the country’s best wildlife can be found, including turtles nesting from July to October. Guides can also take you to local villages and by boat along the canals to spot monkeys, sloths and more.
A spa, gym and fine dining restaurant complete the experience, which does lend itself to honeymooners in particular.
Some of the country’s most famous residents live here. The ‘Land of Turtles’ is a small village on the outskirts of the Tortuguero National Park. The beaches in the area are home to four species of sea turtle, with nesting sites for two very endangered species. Conservation work alongside the scientific groups here is very popular.
