Rodwell House

One of the original 1930s St James mansions overlooking the sea, Rodwell House is well positioned on the False Bay coast, next to the famous colorful beach huts.

It is a very central base if you plan to take in Cape Peninsula’s top sites, including Boulders Beach and Simonstown. On the coastal road that winds along the False Bay coast to Cape Point, Rodwell House is about 35-40 minutes from the city centre; 30 minutes to Cape Point; 15 minutes to Kirstenbosch; 10 minutes from Constantia winelands.

It is slightly old-fashioned, which is in keeping with the overall character. The groomed gardens are a highlight. Service is very attentive when required.

As with most guesthouses fashioned from homes, not all the nine rooms are equal; the Kalk Bay and Rodwell Suites are huge and have dazzling sea views. The Courtyard room is the least appealing.

Given this is a very small guest house, the food and wine is exceptional (the owner is a serious wine collector and offers bespoke wine tours).

Cape Town

Framed by mountains and set around water, Cape Town is stunning. The most famous spots include the sparkling V&A Waterfront, with its hotels, restaurants and shops. The other celebrity is Table Mountain, which looms peacefully over the city and which you can ascend via cable car. See also the Robben Island Museum, dedicated to Nelson Mandela.

Ways you can help in Cape Town

Through Extreme Makeover Projects, you can provide children care centers, shelters and early education development centers with happy, healthier and more homely environments. You can help improve structures, sanitation and outdoor facilities, and to provide […]

You can help support such self-help and home-grown projects in poorly resourced communities so that they can flourish and reach their full potential – sustaining the future. Background We work with communities in the Cape Flats, near Cape Town. This is a challenging environment with very poor soil (often no more than sea sand), roaring […]

Just outside Cape Town you can help care for orphaned babies: bottle feeding, bathing, changing and dressing these precious wee things. Some of the babies may be underweight (under 5 lbs/2.5 kgs) and so require extra special attention and extended feeding time, possibly by syringe. You are expected to work on weekdays from about 8am […]

Nestled in the mountain slopes on the outskirts of Cape Town you will find an inspiring community project that feeds over 100,000 children and adults each week. The vision is to feed 200,000 people weekly, and you can play a part in preparing the meals and then serving them, thus getting to interact with them […]
